French Vineyards

by | Feb 7, 2021 | Europe

Your Adventure Van is a passport to some of the greatest vineyards on the planet but first things first and that’s safety!  So if you do explore the beautiful French vineyards then please either nominate a designated driver or get booked onto campsites in the various regions and take tours from there.  Now onto the fun part……..

France is our nearest continental neighbour, and they’ve been perfecting the art of winemaking here for over 2,500 years.

With a range of wine styles unmatched anywhere in the world, France has produced the prototype for just about every type of wine imaginable.

You can reach the heart of some of France’s best vineyards the same day you leave home in your Adventure Van, and once you’re done exploring and tasting, you’ll have plenty of space to bring home newly discovered treasures.

Did you know it’s only a two hour drive from Calais to the heart of the Champagne producing region? As well as household names like Moet and Chandon and Veuve Cliquot, there are hundreds of small, private producers who welcome thirsty adventurers at their cellar door. Most are also happy to arrange tastings and tours.

Nothing beats Champagne for a special occasion. If you’re planning a wedding or other celebration then your Adventure Van can whisk you straight to the producers, and carry home your new-found favourites with ease, and by dealing direct with the wine maker you can save a tidy sum too. Cheers!

There can be no more famous name in the world of wine than Bordeaux. The home of Claret, this huge vineyard by the Atlantic is home to some household names. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc all call this region home, and there are thousands of producers big and small who throw open their cellar doors to welcome visitors.

There’s also wines to suit all pockets here. Villages like Pauillac, St Julien, St Emilion and Pomerol produce investment-grade beauties, but there are also bargains to be had, delivering a similar style at a fraction of the cost.

You’ve got great choice with your Adventure Van too. You can equip it with an awning, tent, take the bikes and much more besides to enhance your outdoor experience. Just let us know your requirements.

The Loire Valley, home to some of the most exquisite and ornate fairy-tale chateaux in France, is also home to just about every style of wine. Load up your Adventure Van and head to this scenic valley of vines, and you’ll uncover reds, whites, roses, sparkling and sweet wines that will delight your tastebuds.

Towns like Chinon, Bourgueil, Saumur and Vouvray all produce world-class wines from grapes you will recognise – Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc are all at home here.

The heart of this region can be reached in a few hours from all the channel ports, courtesy of your Adventure Van of course. And don’t forget to pack your corkscrew!

It’s fair to say this region is a mecca for food and wine aficionados. Jump in your Adventure Van and follow in the footsteps of the Dukes of Burgundy along the A31, where the road signs read like a who’s who of some of the world’s greatest wines. Gevrey-Chambertin, Vougeot, Nuits-St-George and Beaune all appear within a few kilometres along this magical route. Take your pick from them as you sweep south to the sun, or why not visit them all?

The Romans started wine production in Burgundy in the 2nd Century AD, and the perfect sites for producing the greatest wines were perfected by monks during the middle ages. They found the prime locations for the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes that have made the region’s wines world famous.
